| If I Had Words... |
|
Over the Christmas break, as there was nowt on the box, I decided to have a listen to some music. As I was working my way through some CD's I came across Camille Saint Saens Symphony No. 3 and had a listen to it. I first heard this symphony around 35 years ago, as it was one of the things I recorded to tape off BBC Radio 3 and did listen to it fairly often. My tape deck died a long while back, but did buy a CD of the symphony. The symphony is sometimes called the 'Organ Symphony', but the actual organ doesn't appear untill the third movement. Its one of those pieces that you need to have good relations with your neighbours as the first two movements can be quiet and peaceful but all that changes when the third movement gets under way. Around 45 seconds after the third movement starts, there is a very familiar bit played on a piano which is reinforced (in a big way) by the organ shortly after. The piano bit is one that sticks in your mind, which it did with me and I couldn't work out where I'd heard it before. After repeating that bit over and over again some words came into my mind - 'If I Had Words'.
I don't think that this is the version that I heard before as I've never been a fan of Reggae style music, it is more likely that I heard the versions done by the Mice in Babe as that was on over Christmas - And no I didn't watch it as I was elsewhere in the house at the time. |
