Lee Abbey (Summer 2007)

This was my first trip to Lee Abbey, and it won't be my last.

I last visited that part of the UK way back in the early 1970's as I had a holiday job one Christmas at Butlins in Minehead, and no I wasn't a Red Coat...

Getting to/from North Devon can be very time consuming as the road traffic in that part of the UK gets very heavy during peak season. On the way there, our troubles started north of Bristol on the M5 and it was slow traffic from there onwards. I came off the M5 and did the coast road which took in Porlock Hill which I'd heard a lot about but the drive up was very easy going in my car. We finally arrived at Lee Abbey around after 6.5 hours on the road.

The underlying theme of the week was "God at the Movies", and each evening the octagonal lounge was turned into a mini cinema complete with complementary popcorn. I didn't see all the movies as some nights I was completely knackered after an active day. The movies being shown were:

  • Amazing Grace
  • The Pursuit of Happyness
  • Music and Lyrics
  • The Village
  • Déjà vu
  • The Devil Wears Prada

There were a few others shown during the week when the weather was a bit bad, but being from the North West we even went out when it was pouring down..

More to follow....

Here are some pictures to be going on with...
