I have been a member of Lancashire Automobile Club since 1977, who organise several events in the North West of England, including the: Manchester to Blackpool Veteran and Vintage Car Run and the Blackpool to Scarborough Coast to Coast Classic Tour. I have a gallery of images from several VV runs and the 1999 C2C online in PhotoFolio format. I have never competed personally, but have marshalled at quite a few different types of Motor Sport event, from small club sprints right up to International events like the British Grand Prix and RAC Rally. For my birthday in 2003 I splashed out and bought a new car, an Audi TT 180 Coupe. This being a departure from the previous two - both of which were Peugeot Diesel Hatchbacks The image has been 'shopped, in that certain elements have been removed partly to anonymize the car (number plate), and a few other things removed to smooth off the lines. I like the 'bare bum' look to the TT as it was originally but never got around to getting the real thing done to mine. I've been looking at the new TT over the past couple of weeks, but haven't really considered it as a replacement. There are a few things about the new TT that I don't like. The corporate front end styling may be alright on the larger Audi models but looks out of place on the smaller models. The grill may grow on me, especially when the new TT's actually appear on the roads. | Other Cars I've Owned | VW Beetle 1300 This was my first car which I bought second-hand in 1975. It had around 44000 mile on the clock when I got it and around 88000 by the time I sold it. | | VW Polo L This was my first NEW car. | | VW Golf GTi mk1 1600 I bought this one just after a friend had given me a lift in his GTi. I really liked this car, but it had a nasty habit of losing the front spoiler every now and then. I had it in for part-exchange after ordering my next car when someone ran into the back with a large white van. The van driver hit the car so hard on the right-hand rear, that it shortened the car by around 1 foot on one side. What made it worse was that my car was pushed into a neighbours car and so caused dammage to both ends of mine and the rear of the neighbours car. Both our cars were parked and the first I knew when I heard a crash followed by two car alarms. | | VW Golf GTi mk2 1800 Compared to the previous GTi, this car was larger and although slightly more refined it felt a little underpowered. I did like the sunroof, even though we don't get that much sun. | | Peugeot 205 D turbo The car in the picture wasn't mine, as mine was a red 5-door but it gives you the general idea. | | Peugeot 306 D turbo Again, the image is of a similar car but this one is virtually identical to mine. I had my 306 for eight years and it was a really nice car. It had a novel rear suspension arrangement that gave the car really good handling - it was in the brochure as 'passive rear wheel steering'. In some ways the 306 had better handling than my TT as it went round bends like it was on rails. |
